Dylan O’Brien delivers a career-best performance as Roman, a grieving man coping with the recent loss of his twin brother, Rocky, also played by O’Brien. At a support group, he strikes up a friendship with Dennis (writer/director James Sweeney) and their unlikely friendship takes many twists and turns as the two men grow to trust one another over a shared tragedy.
Twinless is somber and insightful in one moment, while diabolical and unhinged in another. No matter the tone, Sweeney tells this story with striking confidence. His screenplay keeps us off-balance but engaged, striking uncomfortable and uneasy chords with dialogue and scenes so entertaining we cannot turn away.
Twinless was screened as part of the 51st Seattle International Film Festival.
